ARINGAY CELEBRATES INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MONTH Participants from twelve barangays with Indigenous Peoples of Aringay walked through the Don Agaton Yaranon Memorial Park this Friday, October 29, 2021 as they attended the inaugural of the Oath Taking of the Federation of Indigenous Peoples Organization of Aringay. The affair capped the Indigenous People’s Month Celebration and what more to highlight this but the formation of a viable organization in the Municipality among the different indigenous peoples.

The theme of the activity is “Katutubo nga Aringayeños: Kukua tayo ti Balligi. It showed colorful symbols of our indigenous brothers and sisters. It also marked the start of the Maris ti Aglawlaw contest of the Provincial Government.

The program was attended by Ms. Adela Nengasca, Community Development III of the National Commission of the Indigenous People. She thanked the Municipality for taking the first step in inclusivity and recognizing the indigenous peoples role in nation building. She took her speech further that with 12 barangays of Aringay having Indigenous Peoples like Bago, Kankanaey and Ibalois, she lobbied for the implementation of the mandatory law of NCIP to have a mandatory IP representative in the barangay councils and in the Municipal Council.

Vice-Mayor Benjamin O. Sibuma who represented Mayor Eric O. Sibuma retorted that they will review the requirements and the financial capacity of the Municipality to include an Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative. The speech was followed by an Oath Taking Ceremonies of the first Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of the Municipality of Aringay.

Indigenous Peoples’ Month, is usually observed on the month of October, and this is the first time that the Municipality of Aringay marked this heritage activity. During this day, Mr. Mark Greg Dulay Nisperos and Dr. Rolando Quiros Mallari together with Miss Simonette Cartas were given plaques of appreciation for winning and representing Region 1 to the Philippine Civil Service National Songwriting contest.
