“The SGLG award is an auspicious start of our governance. This will inspire us to work harder and better our performance in the years to come.” This was stressed on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 by Mayor Benjamin O. Sibuma after he received the Seal of Good Local Governance at the Manila Hotel. “The award is the crowning stroke to the masterful and efficient work performance of the delivery of basic services for the Aringayenos,” he stressed further.

The SGLG is a progressive assessment system that gives distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas. It highlights integrity and good performance to institutionalize local governance reforms in the continuing pursuit for meaningful local autonomy and development. Established by virtue of Republic Act 11292, SGLG is an award, incentive and recognition- based program for LGUs nationwide to continually progress and improve their performance in various areas. These areas included financial administration; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity programs; health compliance and responsiveness; programs for sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and youth development. With the award, the Municipality will receive a 2022 SGLG marker; eligibility to the DILG SGLGIF to finance local development projects; and priority access to other programs and capacity development assistance from the DILG.

The Municipality has passed the evaluation criteria for the award for the third time. There was a hiatus of two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But all municipalities, cities and provinces worked hard to achieve excellence despite the challenges of challenges of the times. Retired Chief Justice and presently the Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. Attending the awarding ceremonies with Mayor Sibuma are Maria Lucille R. Estacion, Secretary to the Mayor and Ms. Krishan Faye Biason, MLGOO.
